The buzz around Joon-ho Bong’s upcoming English language debut Snowpiercer continues to grow. And this latest trailer gives some context as to why (yes it’s in French, but I’ll explain why in a moment. Patience….)
Set 18 years in the future when the Earth is in the midst of a new Ice Age, those few that remain live aboard a train called the Snowpiercer, powered by a sacred perpetual motion machine. Passengers are divided by class into carriages that span the train creating huge divides in quality of life and access to privilege. Inevitably it is only a matter of time before the smell of revolution fills the air. Leading that revolution is a bearded and smoldering Chris Evans, assisted by Jamie Bell and John Hurt. Defending the status quo is an almost unrecognisable Tilda Swinton.
Whilst the trailer shows that it looks to deliver a fair amount of bang for the viewer’s buck, this looks more Children of Men than Under Siege 2 meets Polar Express. And it also looks like another cracking performance from Chris Evans who is showing a lot of versatility recently. The boy has come a long way since Not Another Teen Movie.
And as for the French trailer I hear you say? Well rumour has it that in his infinite wisdom Harvey Weinstein has decreed that the US release is to be cut down. Whereas the rest of the World gets the directors cut. This trailer is the European release trailer and as a result has lots of goodies in it that American audiences might not get. Which is a shame because it all looks great.
Snowpiercer is awaiting confirmed release dates in US and UK.
