Now I don’t want to say this was anything to do with me………….because it really wasn’t. But, I did say I was going to start a campaign to get Nolan to fill the void in Bond 24 left by the one-and-done Sam Mendes. And lo-and-behold the rumours have started. Coincidence? Absolutely. Am I going to take credit for it? You betcha.
From the Daily Mail via the fine folks at Total Film (I refuse to link to the Daily Mail website and give them any additional web traffic) it is reported from a reliable source that the Broccolis have at least approached and sounded out Nolan for the job. Total FIlm suggest that Interstellar, which starts shooting this summer for a late 2014 release date, may slim down the chances of Nolan taking the job. With Bond 24 slated for 2016 though I am not convinced this is such a stumbling block as it would give Nolan almost 2 years to get Bond to screen.
Now, I know I’ve said it once before but it bears repeating, I fell in love with a girl…….wait……sorry, the White Stripes are evidently ingrained deeper than I thought.
What I meant to say was, I know I’ve said it before but Nolan would be a perfect choice for the darker and more cerebral Bond that Mendes set out with Skyfall. Nolan has become the undisputed master of the summer event movie without pulling back on story, character or complexity. He has always said that Bond was his biggest influence as a film maker so you’d imagine he would relish the chance to helm a chapter in the Bond story.
We’ll have to wait and see if this comes to anything, but it’s exciting that he’s even thinking about it.
